WonderTails ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website and application at wondertails.app. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and their families. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to parents and guardians.
WonderTails complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and its 2025 amendments. Our service is designed for children ages 3–11 and we treat ALL users as subject to COPPA protections.
1. Information We Collect

- Child first name (for story personalization)
- Child age group (for age-appropriate content)
- Parent email (for account and consent management)
Optional Information
- Child interests (for story theme selection)
- Child appearance preferences (for illustration personalization)
- Creature companion preference
Information We Never Collect
- Child's last name
- Child's exact date of birth
- Child's school or address
- Child's photo (appearance is described, never uploaded)
- Location data
- Device identifiers for advertising
- Cross-service behavioral data
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Generate personalized bedtime stories where your child is the hero
- Create age-appropriate content matched to your child's developmental stage
- Save stories to your family's bookshelf for re-reading
- Manage your account and process payments
We do not use child data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose beyond delivering the WonderTails service.
3. Verifiable Parental Consent
Before any child data is collected, we require verifiable parental consent (VPC) from a parent or legal guardian. We use knowledge-based verification questions that are too difficult for a child to answer, consistent with FTC-approved methods under COPPA.
You may revoke consent at any time through your Parent Dashboard. Revoking consent will delete all associated child data.
4. Third-Party Services
We share limited data with the following service providers solely to deliver the WonderTails experience:

We do not share child data with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.
5. Cookies and Tracking
WonderTails does not use behavioral advertising cookies, cross-service tracking pixels, or third-party analytics SDKs that create persistent identifiers for children.
We use only essential cookies required for the application to function (authentication session, language preference). No tracking occurs without explicit parental consent.
6. Data Retention
- Story data: Retained for 365 days for active accounts
- Inactive accounts: Data automatically deleted after 180 days of inactivity
- Server logs: Purged every 30 days
- Consent records: Retained for 6 years for legal compliance
7. Parental Rights
As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
- Access all data we hold about your child
- Review stories created for your child
- Delete your child's data at any time
- Export your child's data in a portable format
- Revoke consent and terminate data collection

8. Data Security
We maintain a written information security program that includes encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, regular security reviews, and incident response procedures. See our Information Security Program for details.
9. Changes to This Policy
We will notify parents by email before making material changes to this privacy policy. Continued use after notification constitutes acceptance. We will obtain new consent if changes affect the scope of data collection.
